DVLA Rant

Yesterday I received an unexpected letter from the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) and they want money from me to renew the photo on my driving license because it's now 10 years old.  Not that I'm tight or anything, but it's more that it was unexpected and I think somehow that this should be free... changing your address on the card is free, so why not the photo?  They create a whole new card for the address change, and the admin can't be that much more for a photo change!

So this evening I have spent quite a few hours producing a photo in the correct size and format on the computer, printing it off (which has involved changing the cartridges in my printer as they ran out of ink), and filling out the form, writing a cheque, searching the house for the paper part of the card licence, and also finding a stamp for the envelope... all in all I'm a bit miffed that I've used up most of my evening, and spent almost £18 for the priviledge! I will now also need to go to the post office tomorrow and pay to send it recorded delivery, because I'm a bit nervous about putting these documents with my details in the post without some proof I did it...

Anyway, just thought I let everybody know that I'm in a bad mood because I've not had time this evening to watch an episode of House.

End of Rant!

I think I'd have saved the time and just popped into a passport photo machine for the picky... I tend to apply my 'hourly rate' to stuff like that -

It is a pain that they charge for a picture update, but its kinda necessary and if it was 'free' then it would mean the 'taxpayer' would have to foot the bill, and frankly I pay for enough stuff for other people already :)
