CUIL

So apparently the search engine CUIL was et up by ex Google employees and they reckon it's better. I've done a brief higly scientific test and can confirm that, at least as at this morning, they are correct. By entering 'Jammie Dodger' as a search criteria, our very own Jammie Dodger Bored Board comes first in the listing!

Oddly, when I enter the words 'ugly nonce', it brings back Stead's Facebook page!

I saw the article and clicked on the link yesterday - it was down. So I tried it this morning and its very slow. Also I dont like the layout. In my view, they've left it too late to challenge Google unless they come up with something extremely cool to tempt people away.

Like maybe a free Jammie Dodger with every search! You're right though. It doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table, except it's a different colour and lays out the results in blocks instead of a list.

Ooh, don't like that! It's slow to search & the layout slow to read when you get the results (& what's with the pictures everywhere? Text results are good, unless I've specifically asked for anything more) I presume they've been working on this for quite a while - that home page would've been cutting edge 10 years ago! Also, the name just screams "NERD".

I'm sticking with Google.

the big difference is that there are no ads... yet.

once they figure out that they have to make money at this or it's going to deflate on itself, you'll see ads, and the search results will be the same.

Sandwich approval is an important part of any development process. Don't trivialise it.

Continuing the scientific research and using "jammie dodger" as the criteria, CUIL found 13,808 listings while Google came up with 46,200...

Anyway, I'm used to Google and will stay with it...Ben

But do we come up first with Google, hmm?

(As a minor digression, not a single word was typed correctly in the above sentence the first time round. I'm no touch typist, but that's pretty sad...)

I've seen him type - its like watching an arthritic monkey, recently darted with speed, trying to perform key hole surgery on a money spider

Still more skillful than his driving though... ehum

Sorry that was all just mean

I don't think anyone here expects any more of you.
