I agree, it's a rip-off and I won't be loving anyone that day!

Valentines Day

Less than 5 weeks to go, YAY! (not!)
Anyone else think it's just a complete commercial rip-off invented by card shop owners?

(on top of that Tesco up here has Easter eggs already!)

It's a tricky one....

hmmm...

It is a commercial con, but I expect it has more to do with restauranteurs and florists than card sellers.  I think the best way round it is to tell your significant other that your love them so much all year round, that having a special day for it kinda trivialises it.

Now the real card cons are the new ones that seem to have popped up over the last couple of years.  Teachers day.  Nurses day.  Secretaries Day.  And worst of all, towards the end of last year, I'm pretty sure I spotted 'Bosses Day'!

I notice no-one's come up with a 'Day' that means I get a card and a pressie.  Banker's Day, perhaps.  Database Programmers Day?  Even a plain old 'Employees Day' would do.  I just want attention!

This is Simon's & my view.  We've never given in to the commercialism of this one.

Yep, here were my thoughts on this to my Admin Assistant:
