Can I bury some nuclear waste in your back garden?

Ministers plot UK nuclear future
The government is inviting communities in the UK to volunteer to host radioactive waste from the country's half-century of nuclear power.

Local authorities are urged to consult widely before coming forward, and may win financial support.

Ministers hope to have the site open for business within about 20 years.

Meanwhile, Business Secretary John Hutton told energy companies that the UK should become the world's number one location for new nuclear investment.

The government is keen to see at least 10 nuclear reactors starting operations around 2020, as existing installations reach the end of their lives, with more to follow.

The article is quite long, but that's the gist of it! So the big question is... would you be happy for your town to be used as a nuclear waste dumping ground?

Here's a bit more about the Finnish facility that is mentioned later in the article. I'd assume that we would be planning something similar.

I voted Yes. The area north of Bristol has a long history of nuclear stuff - both Oldbury and Berkeley are within a 20 minute drive of my house. I don't really see that I'd be in any more danger than I already am; which is very, very little - I'd be more likely to be killed by a low flying ninja sparrow wielding tiny sparrow shuriken than by a nuclear incident.

As long as they bury it deep enough, it cant hurt you - 50 years of Zombie films have taught us that!

Unless of course its Amy Winehouse then I recommend burning her, putting her ashes on a missile - firing up her husbands arse and jettison them both in the sun...
