The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
Delicatessin. A french film. Someone bought it for Catfish as a christmas present and she subjected it to me last week.
What an awful load of old cobblers. I'm sorry, but it was!
I've seen lots of films that are 'odd' or 'weird' but still managed to be good. Mirrormask for example. Or Pans Labyrinth. But I've never seen a film that so desperately tries to be weird and odd that it forgets to be intereresting or even vaguely watchable. The main characters were annoying and the secondary characters were painfully dumb. And the whole film was uniformly brown and quite visually dull.
So my recommendation is not to watch it. Catfish, however quite enjoyed it, and she's in Mensa so probably knows better.
Amelie. A french film. (Spot the link? Clever huh?) I've been trying to watch it for ages (dvd recorder failed to record it the first time I tried and have been waiting for a rerun on tv since) and finally got round to it last week - Darren has a photo of me watching it.
More of a girl's film I'd say but with some very watchable performances, particularly from Audrey Tatou, the tetle role (very pretty). There's a great chase scene with not a vehicle in sight, some interesting bits of cinematography (is that a real word?), a punch up and lots of photo booths...
A pleasant way to spend 2 hours when you have ANOTHER day off work.
I liked Delicatessin, Amilie and Walk the Line ... the films I've seen this year that I thought were slop though were:
Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer - cack Taxidermia - Pointless, narrativeless, dissjointed cack The Hitcher (remake) - just thinking about this again makes me feel queasy Lost In Translation - pointless, plotless drivel Hostel I & II - What was all the fuss and hype about? Superman Returns - OK, I'm not a fan of supes anyway and it was well made but I preferred the original 2 Mr Reeves ones Hills Have Eyes II/Saw IV/ other "torture porn" so called horrors - I don't get this trend. Horrors should be suspensful/tense/scary ... not "ha ha ... here's a person, oh look the arms come off ... look how gory that is" ... god, even the 80s slasher movies had more restraint, plot and interest The Grudge - another american remake of a Far Eastern horror ... and yet again no where near as good. Can't wait to see if they try to do Old Boy .... *sigh*
Old Boy was awesome! Especially the 'doggy' bit at the end!
I'm looking for a new far eastern action flick for my next far eastern action flick club meeting. Any reccomendations?
I got The Host, a Korean monster movie, on dvd not so long ago. That was great! Battle Royale was kinda entertaining, but not good enough for me rto want to see any of the sequels. Casshern was awesomely cool, too.
The Invasion Halloween Remake - even though I LIKE Rob Zombies films ... just no The Number 23 The Reaping Balls of Fury Captivity D.O.A. Dead or Alive Epic Movie Hannibal Rising Pathfinder Vacancy Texas Chainsaw Massacre : The Beginning Heartstopper Smokin' Aces My Date With Drew My Super Ex Girlfriend See No Evil Blades of Glory
I need to choose better films to watch I think.
However, ones I've liked:
Black Sheep Dead Man Cars Pan's Labarynth Black Snake Moan Welcome To The Dollhouse Happiness
The Number 23 - it was okay. Nothing special. Nice to see Jim Carrey not being a dick. Smokin' Aces - loads of fun! It was great. My Super Ex Girlfriend - well... about half of it. It was ball-achingly bad. Pans Labyrinth - Pretty good, but not awesome. Although the monster with no eyes was well freaky! Fantastic 4 2 - I quite enjoyed it. Shiny silly fun. Not great though.
You didn't like Pathfinder, then? It's on my rental list.
I seem to recall that Wossy quite liked Audition - if it's the same movie I'm thinking of.
Last night a group for pals and I watched Dragon Wars, a Korean made movie about... er... dragons...er... having a... er... war.
What could possibly go wrong?
Quite a lot as it happened. The script was rubbish andthe acting was worse. I do however, still recommend watching it as the huge showdown between the US Army and the Dragon Army in downtown LA was bloody great! The special effects weren't quite top notch, but not bad considering a relatively small budget (about half the budget of each of the Star Wars prequels). It was just cool.
Entertainingly, the very climax of the movie took place outside Christopher Lee's Middle Earth residence (Eisengard?) - it was exactly the same tower! And then at the end the music was ripped off from Lord of the Rings too!
Anywhoo... Rubbish, yet pretty film. Watch the first 10 minutes then fast forward to the last 30 and you'll be fine!
Off to see The Incredible Hulk tonight. It'll either be quite good or bowel-emptyingly bad...
I watched Stardust the other day written by Nick Gaiman and someone else - it was actually very good - more entertaining than all that Hobbit nonsense anyway!

I also saw Rambo in Jan and May this year - if you've seen the other 3 (yes even the third one!) I think you'll see this as second best in the quadrilogy behind First Blood.
Reasonable story line - very well executed - takes the story on a step and generally nice to see old big and ugly back!

Truckman's note: Of the original "Casablanca" cast, only Madeleine LeBeau, who played "Yvonne", is still alive...She actually escaped from the Nazis using the Lisbon route depicted in the film two years before the movie was made...

I saw Big Nothing the other night on DVD - you may have never heard of it - if so, there's a good reason for that - its not very good.
Simon Pegg (putting on the worst and most variable US accent in movie history) and David Shhhhhhhwimmer star in this caper comedy which centres around an unbelievable caper and isnt very funny. Which to be honest, doesnt leave it much left to play with.
The ending doesnt make sense and the script is predictable - Jean-Baptiste Andrea who wrote and directed should probably be tied up until he promises not to make any more films. Right now he's making 'Hellphone' - about a teenage boy addicted to his phone... genius....

Indeed - as against Hugh Laurie in House who pulls it off nicely (the accent that is) - in fact Bryan Singer apparently didnt know who he was and upon dismissing a load of UK actors trying to sound American said something along the line of "That's it I want an American for this - bring back that Hugh Laurie guy" - laugh!
I think Simon Pegg has made some amazing stuff, Spaced, Shaun, Fuzz, even Run fatboy run was OK - this was a rare miss!

Catfish's American Aunt, which whom we stayed last year, refused to believe that Hugh was English - until we bought her Jeeves and Wooster on DVD!
