You should know by now that I'm a bit 'humbuggy' of Christmas until about a week or two before! I will prepare something though!

There was an interesting programme on the ABC the other night about the origin of the Australian accent...as I long suspected its a hybrid London/cockney accent.

Anyone listing to the average Aussie talking would have noted expressions like 'Sky-Rocket' for pocket and 'Sepo' for americans..as in the cockney ryhming slang 'Septic Tanks' for Yanks, but the Australians have added the 'o' and shortened it as is their want..

Other little Aussie Rippers are:-

Journo's - Journalist
Ambo's- Ambulance Men
Firies- Firemen
Bikies- Bikers
Bridgies- Bridge engineers
Doco's- Doctors
Pollies - Politicians (this is a polite version)

My personal favourite and one which I heard the other day was 'lawnie'- which was the description of the guy who cuts my grass...
