This could turn into a class action!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20827350/

LINCOLN, Neb. - The defendant in a state senators lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because Hes everywhere.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says hes trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terrorist threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earths inhabitants.

Heh. It's an amusing story, but that article fails to mention that the guy is trying to make a point:

Nebraska State Senator Suing God
To prove a point about frivolous lawsuits, Nebraska state Senator Ernie Chambers is suing God.

Chambers said senators periodically have offered bills prohibiting the filing of certain types of suits. He said his main objection is the constitution requires that the doors to the courthouse be open to all. Chambers said, "Thus anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody-- even God."

Triggering Chambers' action is a federal lawsuit against a state judge who barred the words "rape" and "victim" in court.
I notice he ran out of steam when forming his list of offences:

The lawsuit also accuses God of making and continuing to make terroristic threats of grave harm," and alleges God has caused, fearsome floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes, pestilential plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth defects, and the like.
It was all going splendidly (although 'egregious earthquakes' is a bit... tenuous) unil he got to 'genocidal wars' and mucked up the pattern he had going.

it is a shame though, that he has to resort to theatrics to make the point, although it does have the secondary benefit of amusing us!

Wasn't there a Billy Connolly film where he sued God after his Insurance company wouldn't pay up for his boat being destroyed or something?

The certainly was: The Man Who Sued God.

Billy Connolly plays a fisherman living in Australia, having given up law out of frustration with the system'. When a freak of lightning wipes out his small fishing boat and the insurance companies refuse to pay (as it's an act of God') he takes up law again to take on the system, the legal fiction, the churches and the big insurance companies. Although it's title and trailer maybe suggest a mindless slapstick (and it contains a fair amount of this), the film actually delivers something more mentally challenging and is successfully entertaining by dint of hard work on an initial premises rather than any series of fast jokes. Interesting conundrums about class actions, legal liability and the legal ramifications of the existence or non-existence of God' abound, and the lead characters demonstrate a humanity that makes the comedy all the more touching.
I've never seen it - might add it to my rental list.
