This morning, Stevo and I were discussing (by long-distance e-mail) the subject of emigration in relation to an article he's picked up about the ethnic makeup of Perth - it's 10% English, apparently.
Stevo is, of course an emigrant (and, presumably an immigrant) from England to Australia and it occured to us that most of us have family, whether we know them or not, in foreign places. I, for example have branches of the family in Ireland and Canada and, my mother assures me, one or two in Australia somewhere (she was hazy on the details). I've never met or spoken to any of 'em!
So today's pointless discussion is: how far-reaching is your family? Whose family covers the most countries or continents?
I have a copy of a family history of my Mom's side stating that the family came to America from Scotland in the 1600's...The earliest of them (named Beene or Beane) gave birth to the first white child born in what is now Tennessee...He founded a four-generation dynasty of gunmakers whose firearms were eagerly sought out in and after the Revolutionary War...
All that to say that unless the family was booted out of Scotland en masse, I may very well having living relatives there...Ben

I don't really know too much about my dads side, but my grandmother on my moms side has relatives in Poland, as my grandmother came to the US in.. I think the 20s..with just her sisters and her parents.
But those of us in the US were told we were never allowed to contact the relatives in Poland because every time we do, they ask for money
I actually considered the possibility of her avatar changing at some point and it making me look foolish. It didn't occur to me that it would be so soon hehe.
