The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
One of my pet peeves in the office is those people who are on the phone when their mobils go off. So they say to the caller on the call they are already on to hang on a minute while they answer the mobile and tell that caller that they are on the phone and they will have to call them back. Do these people not understand the concept of voicemail? Isn't that exactly what the voicemail function of their mobile phone is for - so that they don't have to be amazingly rude to the person they're already talking to. I suspect they do it because they think it makes them appear important, busy and in demand, but I generally hang up on people who do it to me.
One of the managers in my office has taken to telling the caller they are already speaking to to hang one, then handing her mobile to the person next to her and telling them to tell the caller that she is on the phone and she'll call them back. So she is now so important, busy and in demand that she has to have someone else sound important, busy and in demand for her!
She hasn't tried handing me the mobile yet. It'll be an interesting conversation.
Errmmm, I've been known to do that! 9 times out of 10 I find people won't leave me a voice mail, so I either have to wait 6 hours for them to call again, & hope I'm around, or call a number I don't recognise & spend 20 minutes explaining that someone tried to call me & no, I don't know who.
If they can't be bothered to leave a message then it clearly wasn't that important and they don't need to be called back. So you don't need to do either of those things.
People who don't leave messages, in my experience include almost all tradespeople & (understandably) all finance people & legal people. So, if I'm buying/selling a house, re-mortgaging or getting work done on the house or car then I do find those calls are important.
I must be even less important than the rest of you...I haven't had a cell phone since my wife departed four months ago...I don't miss the constant annoyance of it ringing in my pocket at the most inopportune times...People that just have to talk to me can call me at work or at home...(end of rant)...Ben

I've always treated my phone as a convenience to me. When I want to be left alone, I turn it off, or stick it on silent. I don't pay a monthly line rental for everyone else's convenience.
My mother has this habit of calling me on my mobile if my land line is engaged. Because, obviously I'm gonna answer it...
Man I try not to do this to people because JDK is right...if they're not going to leave me a message, then I'm not going to bother calling them back.
The only exception to this is when my boss calls my cell phone. He won't leave a voice mail.. instead he'll just keep calling and calling and calling and calling until you finally pickup... which is seriously irritating when you're trying to talk to someone on the other line.
I got fed up with him one day and answered the phone saying "listen! I'm on the other line with a client! ENOUGH already!" and then hung up. It probably didn't win me suck up points, but at least he left me alone for five minutes!
